The Season of the Mudroom

The Season of the Mudroom

Well it is here. The season of the Mudroom. Also known as winter - but more notably, this new version of global warming winter. You know what I’m talking about - one day it is freezing and icy -the next day is the rock salt day where everybody leaves white footprints wherever they step - and then the next day it is all thawed and muddy. So we go from melting snow, to ice melt, to mud. It’s very glamorous. New England Mudrooms take a beating.

Designing a home that works and functions for your family is always in the forefront as we collaborate on your project, but it is our job to make these spaces organized, and aesthetically pleasing. Below are a few of our favorite tricks!

1 - Personal Cubbies or Lockers - If each member of your family has their own cubby - then they should never have to ask where their coat is. Or their boots. Or their backpack. (That is the dream.)

2 - A place to sit - perfect for putting on your shoes, or for waiting for a ride while you watch out the window.

3 - Radiant heat - Having radiant heat in a Mudroom makes your house not only warm and welcoming immediately on entry, but it also helps all shoes and boots dry at lightning speed.

The beauty of a well designed home is that it is catered to your exact needs. On past projects we have also had a chance to add washer/dryers right in the Mudroom for families that play sports and have sweaty gear coming in daily. We have added table height wash stations for pets, and even water bottle refill stations. But our favorite current request is locked drawers with charging station inside so all devices can go to sleep (so you and your kids can too!)
