Artwork for your home

Finding the right Artwork…

Finding the right artwork and hanging it in your home can be a daunting process. There is something about putting the first nail in the wall of a freshly finished space that really freaks people out. To us, art is the final piece of the design puzzle. A house is not a home until there is art on the walls.

When we first start talking about art we often discuss focal walls. Where does your eye naturally fall in a space, and how can we accentuate the architecture and the flow with artwork. Not every wall in your home needs to be adorned, and we encourage calm walls that are the counter balance to art walls. From the very beginning of a project, we can start to talk about ideal dimensions for artwork and we add it to the list of items that will be curated as the design process unfolds. We suggest clients shop for art when they travel. Art can be divisive for couples, but when you are on a trip together, it is much easier to find common ground. And bringing home a piece of art from a memorable trip is a great way to let that good time live on. Beyond that, we urge clients to fall down the rabbit hole when they find an artist who’s work speaks to them. Whether it is on instagram or driving by a gallery window - do the digging. Even if they don’t have a current piece that is the right fit, many artists are open to commissions - or at a bare minimum have a way for you to follow their new releases. Below are a few of our favorite art resources in the New England Area and beyond.

Addison Art Gallery in Orleans has been one of our favorite sources for years. They represent select artists and have a beautiful curation of pieces.

Packard Gallery in Provincetown is worth a field trip to say the least. Between the original seascapes, and the giclees, there is something for everybody. And honestly, art displayed in a church always feels right.

Powers Gallery in Acton is a resource I worked with years ago when I was working on the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman and have happily sent clients to them ever since.

In terms of online options, we love using Chairish as they have so many unexpected and vintage finds that are infinitely unique.

Lauren Martilla is one of our favorite independent artists that you can purchase from directly. With an eye for seascapes and all coastal vibes.

For more casual art, we often turn to Minted. The ability to set the filters for different orientation and subject matter is a huge time saver.

We are big believers that artwork should be a balanced reflection of our client’s lives. And we hope this gives a little insight into our favorite sources to help you find the perfect pieces for your home.

After all, together we create.
