Evolution of a Home

THE EVOLUTION OF A HOME - PART 1

I am always so curious about how people live. Where do you take off your shoes, how do you store your laundry, how do you sort your spices. But I am also beyond curious about how you let your house evolve. Do you make seasonal changes to your interiors? Do you always have a project? Do you set it and forget it?

I love home editing. I am always taking out tired pieces and putting them in the attic for later use. And now we have all these floating pieces with the shop closed that I get to integrate. And it is not rare that my kids walk into the home and I yell not to touch the walls because I am painting them. My girls’ room has been painted four times in 12 years. I love a good project. I love getting dirty and making a mess. I love piecing it all back together in a new way.

Our Family Room is one of the most used spaces in our house. It is loungey and inviting. It is where we start the day and end the day. Was it gutsy to buy a white sectional with two kids and two dogs? Of course it was. Do I regret it? Only a fraction of the time. So knowing that the sectional was staying the same - all other items in the room were up for swaps. Coffee table, rug, art, pillows, lighting.

Here is the before:

And here is our after:

Our current Family Room.

Our current Family Room.

To me - these were all the changes the space needed to feel revived. Now it feels fresh to me - like early Spring. What space in your house is in need of a refresh?
